Plagiarism Policy
Plagiarism Policy
The Journal of the Namibia Scientific Society has a zero-tolerance policy towards plagiarism and unethical use of artificial intelligence (AI).
All submitted manuscripts are expected to be original and properly cite all sources.
Definition:
Plagiarism includes:
- Copying text, ideas, or data without proper attribution
- Self-plagiarism (reuse of one’s own previously published work without citation)
- Paraphrasing without acknowledgment
Use of Artificial Intelligence (AI):
The use of AI tools is strictly regulated.
- AI may be used to improve grammar, style, or readability, but must not be used to generate scientific content, arguments, or bibliographic references
- AI-generated images may be included only if they are the subject of research or for illustrative purposes, and must not substitute real data
- All use of AI must be fully disclosed in the manuscript’s disclosure section and in the cover letter
- Authors remain fully responsible for the accuracy, originality, and integrity of their work, including any AI-assisted edits
Peer Review and AI:
- Reviewers must not upload manuscripts into AI systems or use AI tools to analyze submitted content
- Doing so constitutes a breach of confidentiality
- AI may only be used to edit the reviewer’s own original comments, and any such use must be disclosed
Screening:
Manuscripts may be checked using plagiarism detection tools.
Actions:
If plagiarism or misuse of AI is detected:
- Before publication: the manuscript will be rejected
- After publication: the article may be retracted and a notice issued
The journal reserves the right to take appropriate action in cases of ethical misconduct.
